Rio Hondo Beats Golden West in Women’s Water Polo

Top-seeded Rio Hondo defeated Golden West, 10-4, in a semifinal at the Southern California Regional women’s water polo tournament Thursday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
Rio Hondo (21-0-1) will play second-seeded Grossmont (22-3) in Saturday’s final.
Jeannie Mutra-is scored two goals in the loss for Golden West (17-12-2), which will face Long Beach (22-6-1) Saturday in the third-place match, with the winner advancing to the state finals.
In the quarterfinals:
Golden West 15, San Diego Mesa 6--Lisa Saenz scored five goals for Golden West.
Rio Hondo 13, Saddleback 7--Carol Whalen scored five goals for Saddleback (9-14-2).
