Titans’ Thomas Gets Top Soccer Honor

Sheldon Thomas of Cal State Fullerton has been chosen Pacific Division men’s soccer player of the year in the Mountain Pacific Sports Assn., a school spokesman said Tuesday.
Thomas, a junior transfer from El Camino College, is the team’s leading scorer with 17 goals and five assists. He is tied for 16th nationally for most points and ranks 13th for most goals.
Three other Fullerton players were named to the first team along with Thomas: goalkeeper Mike Forensich, midfielder Joe DiGiamarino and defender Alfred Partida.
UCI’s Michael Mucino, a sophomore midfielder who scored 10 goals this season, also was named to the first team. Anteater defenders Darin Taylor, Don Icardo and Tyler Theslof, and midfielder Patrick Lee were honorable mention.
Huntington Beach’s Clay Harty (forward, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) and Tajh Jenkins (defender, UCLA) were named to the Pacific Division’s first team.
In the Mountain Division, Washington midfielder Jason Boyce was selected player of the year. Boyce, a junior, played at Corona del Mar, where he was selected to The Times all-county first team as a junior and senior.
Joining Boyce on the Mountain Division first team is California defender Steve Rullo from Servite, where he was an All-Sunset League player as a senior in 1993.

Two Rancho Santiago sophomore baseball players have made their college choices, Coach Don Sneddon said Tuesday. First baseman Kevin Duck, who hit .315 with eight home runs and 45 runs batted in, has signed with Cal State Fullerton, and Jeff Bowman, a right-handed pitcher with had an 8-2 record last season, will attend San Francisco.
