Man Held in Girlfriend’s Fatal Stabbing

PALMDALE — Sheriff’s deputies on Saturday arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of stabbing his girlfriend to death during a fight.
The suspect, Darryl Chaney of Palmdale, allegedly stabbed 35-year-old Theresa Pitts in her upper body at 3:49 a.m. at a home in the 900 block of East Avenue Q, sheriff’s and coroner’s officials said.
Pitts was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Chaney, who initially fled following the attack, was taken into custody later Saturday morning, Sheriff’s Deputy Carrie Stuart said. He was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held without bail.
The murder weapon was recovered at the residence, sheriff’s deputies said.
