A Retiring Thought About Creativity
Hoyt Hilsman’s lackluster lament about wasted creative energies is a standard and ridiculous plea (“Filmmakers: To Thine Own Self Be True,” Counterpunch, Feb. 3). It’s like imploring the graffiti artist to put down his spray paint can and focus his considerable mediocrity on oils.
Why these regularly scheduled mea culpas from entertainment spokespersons? Maybe it’s guilt--the house is too big, the car too expensive. Maybe it’s conceit--the elite believe they’re too talented and too gifted to just simply make money.
