Unit Instruments Records $900,000 Loss

YORBA LINDA — Unit Instruments Inc., a maker of products used in manufacturing semiconductors, reported a net loss of $900,000, or 21 cents a share, for its fiscal third quarter, contrasted with net income of $1.5 million, or 34 cents a share, for the like period last year.
Sales for the quarter ended March 1 declined 44% to $9.6 million from $17.2 million.
The net loss for the first three quarters totaled $3.5 million, or 79 cents a share, which included a restructuring charge of $558,000 reflecting severance costs from layoffs and expenses in consolidating facilities.
For the previous nine-month period, the company earned $5.4 million, or $1.21 a share. Sales were down 35% to $30.9 million from $47.8 million.
