A 31-year-old pedestrian died Friday after losing his balance and stumbling into the path of oncoming traffic, police said.
Steven Libby of Irvine was walking on the south side of 1st Street and Pacific Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Thursday when he fell into the street, Police Sgt. Bob Clark said.
“According to some witnesses behind him, [Libby] was fighting and arguing with another guy, flailing his arms,” Clark said.
“The witnesses thought he had probably been drinking, and so as he was swinging, he lost his balance and fell.”
A sedan traveling east on 1st Street struck Libby, who was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died Friday morning, police said.
The driver, a 21-year-old driver from Garden Grove, was not cited pending an investigation.
