Brethren Christian Pounds Visiting Buckley, 34-0

Brethren Christian had two 10-run innings and Jonathan Rouwenhorst and Erik Jensen combined on a no-hitter as Brethren Christian beat visiting Sherman Oaks Buckley, 34-0, in a Southern Section Division V first-round baseball game.
It was also a big day for the Ireland brothers, who combined for 13 runs batted in. Aaron had a double and a three-run home run in the first inning and Sean had two two-run home runs in the sixth for Brethren Christian (19-7).
Rouwenhorst gave up no hits and had 12 strikeouts in five innings and Jensen worked the final two to complete the no-hitter.
In Division II softball:
El Dorado 1, Whittier California 0--Carrie Jeffries (12-7) pitched a one-hitter and struck out seven for El Dorado (18-8), which advanced to the second round.
El Dorado’s Melissa Hobson singled in the fifth with two outs and Samantha Kimura followed with a triple to drive in Hobson.
In Division I badminton:
Ocean View 14, Bolsa Grande 5--Hoang Nguyen swept in boys’ singles, 15-2, 15-0, and 15-4, 15-5, for Ocean View (16-1), which will play Diamond Bar in the semifinals. Diamond Bar beat the Seahawks earlier this season, 15-4, in a nonleague match.
Tien Le swept in girls’ singles, 11-0, 11-4, and 11-0, 11-1, for Ocean View.
In Division II badminton:
Loara 11, Long Beach Poly 8--Melva Wong swept in girls’ singles, 11-3, 3-0 and 11-1, 11-1, to lead Loara (17-1), which advances to the semifinals.
Tuan Nguyen and Steve Lee swept in boys’ doubles and Nina Mai and Wainie Lim swept in girls’ doubles for Loara.
Magnolia 11, South El Monte 8--Joyce Cabuhat won in girls’ doubles, 12-10, 12-11, and 11-3, 11-0, for visiting Magnolia (16-2).
In Division III boys’ volleyball:
Calvary Chapel 3, North Hollywood Campbell Hall 0--Josh Miller had 10 kills and Chadney Meserve added nine as Calvary Chapel won the quarterfinal match, 15-8, 15-6, 16-14.
