Agency Will Review 24-Hour Pharmacy

A proposal for the city’s first 24-hour drive-through pharmacy will be reviewed by the Planning Agency on Tuesday.
A Walgreens RxPress is proposed at El Toro Road and Paseo de Valencia. Of modest size--just 1,900 square feet--the pharmacy likely would get about 25% of its business from drive-through customers, company officials said.
A permit application will be reviewed by the City Council acting as the city Planning Agency.
City Planning Director Mike Thiele said the biggest issue is making sure that the line of traffic using the drive-up window does not back up onto the street.
Though Thiele recommends approval, he said the around-the-clock schedule might draw some criticism from residents.
“There is really no concern from a staff perspective,” Thiele said, “but there may be from the community.”
Other businesses that have proposed 24-hour operations have met with objections from residents concerned that late hours might attract criminals looking for an easy target, Thiele said.
The agency will meet at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 25201 Paseo de Alicia, Suite 150. Information: (714) 707-2600.
