Judge in Belmont School Case Refuses to Lift Injunction
- Share via
A Superior Court judge held tough on her decision to delay any work on a new downtown high school until it receives the full review of a committee charged with recommending whether the project deserves Proposition BB money.
Judge Diane Wayne turned down a request from Los Angeles Unified School District attorneys to lift her injunction. The Proposition BB committee had voted to tell her it had completed its review but had not decided on the funding issue.
But the chairman of the bond oversight committee, Steven Soboroff, said he was surprised by the judge’s action and did not know what further scrutiny she expects. He pointed out that the developer is threatening to charge the district $12,000 a day for the delays because the school board already signed a development agreement late last month.
