Correa Isn’t Planning to Stick Around

Outfielder Miguel Correa wasn’t happy about coming to the California League and since he’s gotten here he’s tried to make life just as miserable for the pitchers he faces.

Correa, 25, in his eighth pro season, had 102 games of double-A experience in the Atlanta Braves’ organization before he was signed by the Mariners as a free agent in the off-season. He began this season with the Mariners’ double-A team in Memphis but was sent to Lancaster when Luis Tinoco went on the disabled list April 18.

“I was upset when they sent me here because I thought I was going to spend the whole season up there,” Correa said. “I almost retired. . . . I made the decision to keep playing. I’m trying to put up some good numbers here and go back there.”

Correa entered Friday night’s game batting .321 with nine home runs and 27 runs batted in.

“He definitely deserves a shot at double A,” said Dana Williams, the JetHawks’ hitting coach. “Miguel is our most consistent power hitter. When he comes to plate there’s always a chance he will hit one out and that’s a valuable thing.

“I don’t know if we will have him in the second half, but if we lose him, that’s going to be a big part of our power.”
