SEATTLE — Doug Drabek gave up two hits in eight innings and Norberto Martin drove in two runs as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Seattle Mariners, 2-1, Sunday night.
Drabek (9-7) struck out a season-high seven and walked one. He lost his shutout when Ken Griffey Jr. hit a homer in the seventh.
But Chuck McElroy struck out Griffey in the ninth after the Mariners put runners at the corners. After Matt Karchner relieved, Edgar Martinez flied to Dave Martinez in right, and he threw home for a game-ending double play.
