Betty Halsema Foley; Fund-Raiser for Charities

Betty Halsema Foley, 82, fund-raiser for Pasadena charities. Born in Manila, Foley was interned by the Japanese in Baguio, the Philippines, during World War II. She later helped to organize the Center for Civilian Internee Rights. In the 1970s, she was a fund-raiser for Pasadena Mental Health and imported folk dolls made by Philippine mountain women to sell for charity. Foley was a docent at the Gamble House and the Huntington Library and Gardens. A graduate of Duke University, she worked as a mathematics teacher until her marriage to Rupert Foley. On Friday in Scottsdale, Ariz., after a stroke.
