Sally Ann Fidel; Retired in 1994 From Defense Department

Sally Ann Fidel of Camarillo, a retired procurement technician for the Department of Defense, died Sunday in a local hospital. She was 67.

Fidel was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Columbus, Neb., and had lived in Camarillo since 1957.

Fidel’s husband of 44 years, Gene, said that as a procurement technician his wife contacted and interviewed engineers around the country.

She worked first at the Point Mugu Navy base and was promoted to a post at the Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme, where she worked until her retirement in 1994.

“After she retired, she spent a lot of time in the garden,” said Gene Fidel. “She loved roses and had a large garden with about 100 rosebushes.”

Sally Fidel also liked anything having to do with turtles, and over the years her collection of turtle pins, figurines and other turtle-related items grew.

In addition to her husband, Fidel is survived by her mother, Selma Gaver of Visalia; sisters Corinne Wobrock of Springville and Gretchen Shultz of Midland, Texas; sons Pat, Donovan, Jerry and Danny; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Camarillo. Interment will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 5500 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 190, Los Angeles, CA 90040, or the Camarillo Hospice, 2309 Antonio Ave., Camarillo, CA 93010.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, Camarillo.
