Friday the full moon eclipses the star Aldebaran-the brightest star in Taurus the Bull. The moon’s lower left edge eclipses Aldebaran, which suddenly winks out, at 7:51 p.m. as seen from Los Angeles. You will need binoculars or a small telescope to see even so bright a star close to the moon. Notice that Aldebaran appears to vanish a very short distance away from the moon. The moon is 99% full and the star disappears behind its extremely thin dark edge. Aldebaran reappears at 9:04 p.m. from behind the upper right edge of the moon.
