STINGRAYS TODAY

Opponent--Colorado Xplosion.

Time--4 p.m.

Records--Long Beach 12-10, Colorado 10-12.

Site--Pyramid, Long Beach State.

Update--The StingRays need a victory today, not only to put distance between themselves and the Xplosion in the ABL’s Western Conference race, but to also stave off streaking San Jose. Long Beach beat Colorado a week ago, 75-70, but lost to the Xplosion in Denver two days before that, 89-78. Long Beach passes the midway point of its schedule today, as it nears its longest home stand. After a six-day holiday break, the StingRays travel again to Portland Memorial Coliseum Saturday, scene of perhaps its most disappointing result Thursday, when the Natalie Williams-led Power outscored Long Beach 21-10 in the fourth quarter and won in overtime, 69-67. Colorado comes into the Pyramid today a loser of its last two, and 2-2 against the StingRays. Colorado’s top offensive threat is Crystal Robinson, who is averaging 15.3 points per game; Long Beach’s Yolanda Griffith is at 19.1. Long Beach and San Jose are the highest-scoring teams in the league, Colorado ranks eighth.
