Perkins, Foschi Survive Strong Challenges

Australia’s Kieren Perkins, the world-record holder in the 800-meter freestyle, and U.S. National B team member Jessica Foschi won close races in the 800-meter events at the fourth annual Janet Evans Invitational on Thursday at the USC McDonald’s Swim Stadium.
Perkins won in a meet-record 8 minutes 7.54 seconds. He was challenged only by teammate Jason Samuelson, who finished second in 8:07:94. U.S. National B Team member Chris Thompson was third in 8:14:68.
Forschi, 16, won in 8:48:85, holding off Chicago Park’s Amy Migawa (8:48:98). USC’s Lindsay Benko was third in 8:50.72.
