City Crossing Guards Getting 5% Pay Raise

The city’s crossing guards will soon receive a 5% pay raise.
Depending on experience, guards now earn from $5.93 to $7.21 an hour. With the pay raises, the range will be $6.22 to $7.57.
There are about 16 guards, who are typically retirees or homemakers, police said. Most live in the city.
City Council members agreed this week to renew the contract of a private company that provides crossing guard services to the city. The pay increase is part of the renewed contract.
The city will pay Los Angeles-based All City Management $128,928 this fiscal year for the services. Last year, the first time the city used an outside company to provide crossing guards, the cost was $125,913.
Officials agreed last year to privatize the crossing guard service, which is formally under supervision of the Police Department, to avoid having to hire another part-time administrator.
When All City Management took over, all of the city’s crossing guards were offered jobs.
