Concert Planned Despite Threat of Eviction

Despite eviction proceedings begun against it Wednesday, the Ash Grove nightclub on Santa Monica Pier planned to hold its scheduled concert Thursday night, a spokesman for the club said.

Because the Ash Grove’s owners failed to pay almost $65,000 in overdue rent July 1, the Santa Monica City Atty.’s office filed an unlawful detainer action in Superior Court on Wednesday, said Linda Moxon, deputy city attorney.

Ash Grove Enterprises Inc., which owns the club, was served with a copy of the complaint and has five days to respond, Moxon said.

“We are hopeful that they will come up with the money and cure the default,” she said. “Everybody would love to see the club go on.”

An Ash Grove staffer reached Thursday at the club said negotiations were continuing and a performance by Eddie Beytos and the Nervis Brothers would go on as scheduled.
