The Jewish Federation/Valley Alliance and Hadassah Southern California will kick off their yearlong Women’s Social Awareness lecture series Tuesday with community activist Georgia Mercer.
Mercer, an aide to Mayor Richard Riordan and a recent Los Angeles City Council candidate, will discuss current political issues affecting Los Angeles, in an effort to empower women to take an active role in determining the future direction of their communities.
“The Women’s Social Awareness Series is an opportunity for women to grow and share with new and old friends and work together to build a stronger Jewish community,” said Marla Lewis, Valley Alliance Women’s Department director.
The Mercer lecture begins at 9:30 a.m. and will be held at a member’s home in Encino, Lewis said. The session costs $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
