Foreign Plane’s Mishap Sparks Probe

U.S. authorities launched an investigation into why a United Arab Emirates military transport plane made an emergency landing in northern New York state, officials said. The State Department said it had given diplomatic clearance for the flight after being told it was on a training mission, but was looking further into the reported presence of weapons on board. The C-130, carrying 12 people, lost a propeller at 27,000 feet, about 35 miles southwest of Saranac Lake, landing in the woods near Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear, officials said. None of those aboard--10 citizens of the UAE and two from Pakistan--was injured as the propeller sliced through the four-engine plane’s fuselage, hit two engines and punctured an external gas tank.
