From now on this city will be known as “The Hidden Jewel.” At least that’s what the City Council decided this week in selecting a motto for the city.
Residents submitted nearly 200 motto suggestions in a contest held by a local real estate company, with the winner receiving $100.
David Knox’s entry “Villa Park--Orange County’s Hidden Jewel” was selected as the best. Officials said the shorter version ultimately approved would be easier to use in city promotions.
“The Hidden Jewel really describes what we are all about,” said Marilyn Johnson, a spokeswoman for the contest.
Knox has decided to give his prize money to the National Federation for the Blind.
