Houston’s No-Hitter Lifts SCC to Victory

Jen Houston pitched a no-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk as Southern California College defeated Point Loma Nazarene, 2-0, in the second game of a doubleheader sweep in a Golden State Athletic Conference softball game Tuesday at SCC.
Gretchen Brandt and Valerie Irwin each had a hit and an RBI for the Vanguards (35-7, 7-1).
In the first game, Brandt gave up two hits and struck out 12 in a 1-0 10-inning victory. Chrissy Vega’s single scored Alicia Groshon in the 10th.
In other Golden State Athletic Conference softball:
Azusa Pacific 13-7, Concordia 0-3--Azusa Pacific (25-13, 6-2) had 16 hits off starter Allison Maya in the first game of a sweep that extended the Eagles losing streak to 10.
In the Western Intercollegiate golf tournament:
Irvine finishes 16th--Jerome Valentin shot nine-over-par 222 in three rounds at Pasatiempo for the Anteaters, who finished in a tie for 16th with Pepperdine at 897.
