Bicycle Rodeo Offers Races, Maintenance

Jumps, wheelies and faith will be on display when the Nyeland Community Church in Oxnard holds its second annual Bicycle Rodeo on Aug. 29.
The free event, geared for children, is open to the public and includes races, a freestyle competition and free bicycle maintenance.
“During the summer there’s just not a lot of activity for the kids,” the Rev. Troy Welch said. “[The rodeo] has been very effective for getting the kids in and helping them have a good time.”
The event attracted about 50 participants and their families last year, but Welch said he hopes it will grow this year.
“Our participation in our immediate area was good,” he said. “But we wanted to reach outside our area.”
The event begins at 8 a.m. at Nyeland Community Church, 3326 Nyeland Ave., and the church is still looking for donations, including helmets.
