A former facilities director with Cal State Los Angeles has pleaded no contest to embezzling up to $12,000 from the school to restore a vintage Porsche.
Alfred Henderson Jr., 57, of Altadena was sentenced last week to a year in jail and ordered to pay $12,000 in restitution to the school. Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan also placed Henderson on probation for three years and prohibited him from accepting any jobs with a public agency.
Henderson was fired from Cal State L.A. in April 1997 for excessive personal use of his state-issued cellular telephone. A follow-up investigation by university police found that he had been using the university’s auto shop budget to order parts for his 1967 Porsche.
When Henderson was arrested in February, he was working for Cal State Fullerton.
A search of his Altadena home turned up stolen university property, including an 18-foot-tall light pole, chairs and a vacuum, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Thomas R. Krag.
Police never recovered the Porsche.
