Police announced a $25,000 reward Monday for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect in the slaying of a 46-year-old Florida man who was fatally shot while in town visiting relatives.
Martin David Vaughn, of Sebring, Fla., was killed July 22 in his brother-in-law’s home in Laurel Canyon. Vaughn, his wife and son were returning to the house on Wonderland Avenue after a performance at the Hollywood Bowl when they were ambushed in the driveway by a gunman, who then forced the family inside.
Vaughn was shot when he attempted to subdue the gunman, police said.
The suspect, who used an assault rifle in the killing, was described as male, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, in his late teens to early 20s, possibly Latino.
The reward money has been authorized by the City Council.
Anyone with information about the crime should call LAPD homicide detectives at (213) 485-6410 during business hours or at (213) 485-4302 at other times.
