Off the Air

From a Times staff writer

Interesting Grammy categories that won’t be presented during the broadcast:

* Can a 23-year-old song by the Boss win a Grammy? Bruce Springsteen’s “Thunder Road” from “In Concert: MTV Plugged” is nominated for male rock vocal performance.

* Will Frank Sinatra’s health problems give a sentimental boost to “Celebrating Sinatra” by Joe Lovano? (Jazz instrumental performance, individual or group)

* Will Iglesias padre or hijo take home a statue? Julio and son Enrique face off for Latin pop performance.

* The Pooh Wars: Two Winnie-the-Pooh projects are among the spoken word for children nominees: one by Long John Baldry; the other by Charles Kuralt.

* Speaking of Kuralt, the late CBS newsman is also nominated for spoken word album (“Charles Kuralt’s Spring”).

* Will Chris Rock continue his amazing roll? His “Roll With the New” is up in the spoken comedy album category.

* Will two “Titanic” projects that have nothing to do with the hit movie win by virtue of association? “Titanic: A New Musical” is nominated for musical show album and “Titanic: Music as Heard on the Fateful Voyage” is up for recording package and album notes.
