I met Judge Maxine Thomas during my first week as a judge of the Los Angeles Municipal Court (obituary, Jan. 18). Sustained by deep religious convictions, she was a boundless idealist: She devoted long hours to developing innovative programs to make the court more efficient and accessible to citizens. She was indefatigable in her willingness to help her colleagues individually and as faculty in judicial education programs, in reaching out to community groups and in helping young lawyers.
I deeply valued Thomas. Do not let her personal tragedy hide the light she shone and reflected so radiantly during her career.
