The St. Louis Blues kept one of their big-money free agents, agreeing to a three-year contract Thursday with left wing Geoff Courtnall. Terms were not released, but he was seeking a $10-million deal.
The Blues signed defenseman Al MacInnis last month, but defenseman Steve Duchesne signed with the Kings. The Blues have said they would not try to re-sign Brett Hull, their career scoring leader.
Courtnall, 35, led St. Louis with 31 goals and had 62 points.

Longtime teammates and 16-year veterans Guy Carbonneau and Craig Ludwig will stay together one more year after the Dallas Stars re-signed the two free agents to one-year contracts with one-year options. Carbonneau’s deal reportedly was worth $1.2 million, Ludwig’s $850,000.
General Manager Glen Sather re-signed with the Edmonton Oilers. Sather said it’s unlikely his free-agent goalie, Curtis Joseph, will be re-signed. . . . Pittsburgh Penguin co-owner Roger Marino, who angered fans and partner Howard Baldwin with his tough stance on Mario Lemieux’s contract, said he is negotiating to buy out Baldwin.
