PASCAGOULA, Miss. — A phone tip helped lead authorities to an inmate who escaped from a Mississippi sheriff and evaded an eight-day manhunt in Alabama, where he was sought in the killing of a police officer.
Mario Centobie, 32, and fellow inmate Jeremy Granberry, 19, overpowered the Jones County sheriff and escaped June 25 while they were being transported from prison to a court hearing, authorities said.
Centobie was arrested Sunday near the Mississippi-Alabama border in the slaying of Moody police officer Keith Turner, who was killed June 27 after stopping Centobie, officials say.
