KFWB-AM (980) marks a milestone today — its 30th anniversary as an all-news radio station, the area’s first.
“For the past 30 years, we’ve been right alongside our listeners during all the triumphs and tragedies,” says Roger Nadel, vice president and general manager. “Our dedicated staff of broadcast journalists is committed to keeping Southern Californians informed.”
KFWB won nine Golden Mike Awards in 1997 for local broadcast journalism, including best newscast and best live coverage.
Here’s a piece of birthday trivia: In 1924, the station was bought by Sam Warner, founder of Warner Bros. So what do those call letters stand for? KFWB says it’s “Keep Filming Warner Bros.”
