Three business leaders and a corporation will receive the 1998 Life Enrichment Awards from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science at a ceremony Thursday in Beverly Hills.
The school, based in Willowbrook, will honor the recipients who “contribute to creating environments in which individuals are inspired or empowered to take control over their own lives and create healthy communities,” said W. Benton Boone, interim university president.
The Life Enrichment Awards will honor Edison International and business leaders Hollis Smith, Janice Bryant Howroyd and Alberto G. Alvarado, local director of the Small Business Administration.
In addition, a former university president will receive the Board of Directors Medal. Dr. Reed V. Tuckson, who was Drew’s president from 1991 to 1997, will be singled out for his leadership and commitment to the University, spokeswoman Vicki Phillips said.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Ticket information: (213) 357-3474.
