Tantardini Helps Cypress Get Past Delta in 10 Innings

Jill Tantardini drove in three runs as Cypress beat San Joaquin Delta, 3-1, in 10 innings in the second round of the state softball tournament Friday at Buchanan High in Clovis.
Cypress, which beat Shasta earlier Friday, moves to the winner’s bracket final against Sacramento tonight at 7.
Cypress, the defending state champion, beat Sacramento in the title game last season.
“We’re pumped up right now,” Cypress Coach Brad Pickler said. “We’re hitting well and playing good defense.”
Mandy Rockwell pitched the final five innings for the victory to improve to 28-4 for Cypress (51-5).
Sandra Mulder had two hits and scored twice in Cypress’ first-round victory over Shasta.
Rockwell gave up five hits and walked one. In another tournament game:
Sacramento 4, Fullerton 1--Fullerton took a 1-0 first-inning lead on a two-out RBI single by Crystal Aguirre. Top-seeded Sacramento evened the score in the bottom of the inning and posted three more in the second.
The Hornets (29-16) play Solano today at noon in an elimination game.
