Brea Olinda quarterback Travis Blood threw for 317 yards and four touchdowns and running back Scott Lieng rushed for 155 yards yards and scored three touchdowns as the Wildcats defeated Katella, 56-14, in a nonleague game Friday night at Brea Olinda High.
Blood threw touchdowns passes of 61, seven, 43, and 36 yards, and the Wildcats scored on all six of their first-half possessions to take a 42-14 lead.
Brea (4-0) amassed 386 yards of total offense in the first half. Wildcat Coach Jon Looney was not happy despite the victory.
“We started out like we practiced this week, slow,” said Looney. “We won’t be able to get away with starting off games like this in the weeks to come.”
Katella (2-2) took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards in four plays to take a 7-0 lead. Quarterback Chris Haller capped the drive with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Jordan.
Brea countered with a 28-yard touchdown run by Lieng and a Blood touchdown pass to Matt Winkler to take a 14-7 lead.
Knights’ running back Francis Johnson tied the score, 14-14, on an 83-yard run with 3:57 left in the first quarter. The Wildcats’ defense stiffened, their offense broke loose and by the end of the first quarter, Brea had increased its lead 21-14 on a 13-yard touchdown run by Deonta Birdsong. The Wildcats added three touchdowns in the second quarter.
