Council Turns Down Cable Company Contract

Seeking to speed up cable system improvements, the City Council has declined to sign a 10-year agreement with Century Communications.

Council members said they were unhappy with the proposed agreement, which calls for an 18-month plan to upgrade the system to fiber optic technology and an expansion from 36 channels to 78.

The council wants the upgrades completed in a year.

Century had turned down a five-year contract with a six-month deadline on the upgrades, city officials said.

Although some San Dimas residents are calling for the city to find another cable operator, the city’s cable consultant has suggested that council members continue negotiations with Century first.

The existing franchise agreement expires in March.
