State to Help Pay for Artesia Boulevard Repairs

Torrance has received $5.4 million from the California Department of Transportation to repair a two-mile stretch of Artesia Boulevard.
The city assumed control of the roadway between Hawthorne Boulevard and Western Avenue in May, city spokeswoman Arlene Barco said.
“It’s fairly badly deteriorated and there hasn’t been success in getting the work done through the state,” said Barco. “It is one of our major corridors so we’d really like it to look its best.”
The money will fund street paving, water main replacements, median landscaping and moving overhead cables underground, she said.
It will take at least a year to complete the bidding process for the design and construction contracts before work begins.
