Donors Sought to Give Type O Blood

There is a critical shortage of blood in Ventura County so United Blood Services is turning to the public for help.
“The local supplies of Type O blood have reached the point of being beyond critical. If we do not get the healthy donors to respond . . . we will be looking at not having enough on hand to meet local hospital surgical schedules,” said Patty Hunt, spokeswoman for United Blood Services.
The private blood bank accepts donations of all blood types but particularly needs Type O, Hunt said. Compared with past holiday seasons, there has been a low number of donors this month, she said.
United Blood Services has donor centers in Ventura, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley, with mobile units visiting several cities regularly.
