*** The Other Ones, “The Strange Remain,” Grateful Dead Records/Arista.

There’s still nothing like a Grateful Dead concert, but the tour last summer featuring the Dead’s surviving core came as close as possible, and this document of those shows offers surprisingly guilt-free pleasure. Pianist Bruce Hornsby, two guitarists and a sax player add new personality while honoring the spirit of Jerry Garcia. And--Jerry, forgive us--at times there’s more rhythmic drive here than the Dead often mustered.
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent). The albums are already released unless otherwise noted.
