Bergen Brunswig Swallows a Drug Company

Bergen Brunswig Corp. said Friday it has completed its acquisition of Pennsylvania-based Stadtlander Drug Co. for about $300 million in cash and stock. The deal represents a major expansion of Orange-based Bergen’s rapidly growing specialty drug business. Stadtlander provides special immune-system medications for patients with HIV and others who have received organ transplants. It also provides pharmaceuticals for about 250,000 inmates in privately operated prisons.
