Fullerton Beats Cypress for Fuscardo’s 300th Victory

Fullerton Coach Nick Fuscardo got his 300th victory at the college as the Hornets beat first-place Cypress, 8-7, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Sunday.
Cypress, the top-ranked team in Southern California, got a runner to second with one out in the ninth but didn’t score. The Chargers are 16-5, 6-1.
Rich Pohle had a double and home run for Fullerton (14-11, 3-6). Fuscardo, in his 14th season, has a record of 300-252-7.
Fuscardo’s 100th victory at Fullerton came against Cypress in March of 1990.
In another conference game:
Santa Ana 14, Golden West 7--Bobby Fry had four hits and five runs batted in and Richard Lane had three hits and three RBIs for visiting Santa Ana (14-10, 4-5).
In the championship game of the Fresno softball tournament:
West Valley 2, Cypress 0--The Chargers reached the final by defeating Solano, 4-0, in the semifinals.
In another Fresno tournament game:
Cuesta 2, Saddleback 0--The Gauchos (19-7) lost in the bronze division final. Tara Kroener (14-5) pitched a complete game and hit a home run in a 4-3 semifinal victory over Moorpark.
