Police were continuing to investigate a weekend shooting that left one man injured, authorities said Sunday.
According to Oxnard police, Isaiah Smith, 33, was shot once in the shoulder after a brief altercation with a group of people in the 4900 block of Terrace Avenue on Saturday night.
Smith told officers he was standing in an alley talking to friends shortly after 10:30 p.m. when several other people began throwing bottles at them from the backyard of a nearby home.
As Smith and friends started to leave, a volley of gunshots erupted.
He was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he remained Sunday in good condition.
Officers responding to the incident stopped a car leaving the area with its lights off. They took one man into custody and recovered a handgun they believe may have been used to shoot Smith.
Daniel Matos, 20, was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapon.
He remained there Sunday in lieu of $65,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Ventura County Superior Court.
