The city has not received its share of the $6 million Gov. Gray Davis approved for Orange County cities to fight fire ants last month.
A city survey estimates that it would cost $110,000 to fight a widespread infestation of fire ants.
But city officials said there has not been any report of injuries or damage from the ants.
Jennifer Murray, assistant city manager, said the city eradicated the last of five fire ant mounds on public property this summer.
