* Re “House OKs 1% Cut in Funding Government Agencies,” Oct. 29: The Republicans in the House of Representatives proposed a $792-billion tax cut. They told us Social Security would be protected and we could have the tax cut too. The president vetoed the tax cut, and now the Republicans in the House need to cut government spending 1% across the board in order to protect Social Security. Is it just me who can’t make heads or tails of this kind of logic or aren’t House Republicans very good with numbers?
