The City Council will consider tonight an appeal from neighbors concerned that a resident’s request to add a second story to his home’s detached garage on Avenida Cordoba will set an undesirable precedent.
The council deadlocked on this item at the Oct. 6 meeting, during which Councilman Jim Dahl was absent. The impasse resulted in neither approval nor denial of the appeal, prompting the council to table the item until tonight.
Residents who live near the applicant appealed the decision with concerns that the Planning Commission’s decision will allow the resident to create an “apartment-like structure.” Residents also worry that the decision may inspire other property owners to build dwelling units near their homes and decrease property values throughout the neighborhood.
