Buchanan, Trump

* Re “Buchanan Feeds Class War in the Information Age,” Opinion, Oct. 31: David Brooks’ column on Pat Buchanan’s presidential campaign and his derogatory style in describing his followers is perhaps more sickening than some of the ideas Buchanan courageously and not altogether erroneously advocates.
Buchanan’s ideas are perhaps not “politically correct,” in that they step on some people’s toes, and today this is impermissible and immediately triggers the labeling of “anti” this or that. I admire a man who speaks his mind, unlike the majority of bland politically correct politicians who fear to speak out, or do so out of both sides of their mouths.

* Brooks states he is unable to say which political category Buchanan’s followers fall into. Allow me to assist him. The category is the lunatic fringe. Brooks later cites poll numbers for Buchanan at about 9%. It is my understanding that this is about the same percentage of Americans who believe Elvis is still alive.

* I never in this world thought I would agree with Donald Trump, but his article about Buchanan (“Buchanan Is Too Wrong to Even Correct,” Commentary, Oct. 31) is right on target.

* In the biography note at the end of his column, The Donald is called a [potential] candidate for the presidency. Trump for president? That’s like a sumo wrestler signing up for the pole vault!

* The only reason I have for voting for Trump is to hear what Marla has to say. Even then he would have to go to Reform school first.

* The Reform Party: Donald “Don Juan” Trump, Pat “the Loose” Buchanan, Jesse “the Mouth” Ventura, directed by Ross “the Boss” Perot. It’s almost like a Marx Brothers movie.
