Los Alamitos Defense Takes Charge of Oilers

Los Alamitos’ defense intercepted Huntington Beach quarterback Casey Ryder twice, sacked him six times and recovered a fumble in the Griffins’ 44-7 Sunset League victory Thursday at Veterans Stadium.
Los Alamitos (8-1, 3-1) limited the Oilers to 125 yards in total offense.
The Griffins scored 3 1/2 minutes into the game when Adam Nauta ran in from 19 yards.
After Los Alamitos forced the Oilers (4-5, 0-4) to punt, Tony Holder caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Mike Sanford.
The only points Huntington Beach scored came late in the first quarter when Russell Oschman ran 23 yards to make the score, 14-7.
Damon Johnson’s three-yard run and a 38-yard field goal by Chris Kluwe rounded out the first-half scoring as the Griffins led, 24-7, at the intermission.
The Griffins’ special teams also scored a touchdown when Rudy Sedano returned a punt by Shaun Donahoe 77 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter.
Nauta, who rushed for a game-high 163 yards in 18 carries, scored on a 12-yard run. Lance Calverie added a three-yard rushing touchdown in the second half.
Oschman led Huntington Beach with 96 yards in 18 carries.
