Construction began Tuesday on the city’s first commercial building project since it incorporated in March.
Costa Mesa-based Polygon Development LP began digging and moving dirt on its 14.5-acre Town Centre project.
The shopping center, which developers predict will open late next year, will feature a one-story office building, two retail buildings, a three-story office building, a medical office building, a 140-suite hotel and a restaurant.
The project is on El Toro Road between the San Joaquin Hills toll road and Moulton Parkway.
“I hope residents understand the disruption, noise and dirt,” said Councilwoman Ann M. Snider, who said developing a good relationship with city businesses should be among the city’s highest priorities. “It’s going to be a beautiful site once it’s finished.”
