College Preparation

* Re “College Is for the Prepared,” editorial, Nov. 22: Cal State colleges are kicking out academically unprepared students--it’s about time. Colleges should not be picking up the costs to teach students information they should have picked up in high school. So why are these students unprepared for college? The Times, as usual, is fuzzy thinking and liberal and, can you believe it, wants to blame the students for their failure--they watch too much television.
This is ludicrous. The real reason for their failure is this: teacher unions, academic tenure, social promotion and 30 years of nonmerit programs in education such as affirmative action.
