Allen had the county’s best individual performance Saturday, second place in Division I, at the state cross-
country
champi-
onships in Fresno.
Allen
finished the 5,000-meter
course in 17 minutes 42 seconds (fourth overall). Allen changed her strategy and ran a slower first mile, which allowed her to be faster the next two miles; she was 41 seconds faster than the county’s next fastest runner.

Serving and defensive performance in regional semifinal keyed Game 2 comeback and eliminated Mater Dei.

Strong showing by No. 2 runner provided difference as Foothill survived Santa Margarita for Division II title.

Epitomizing team aspect of her sport, Quye’s 19:31 gave CdM five runners in the top 20 and a state title.
Chris Kluwe
Los Alamitos, Football
He may have had two field goals blocked earlier, but the county record-breaker that Kluwe
kicked as time expired, a 60-yarder he had no doubt

Loyola and helped the Griffins advance to the Division I semifinals with a 30-23 victory. Kluwe, who will attend UCLA, also had field goals of 47 and 28 yards, and finished with 12 points.

The senior pulled away in the final mile, winning the Division II state title in 15:27 over 5,000 meters.
