The son of Rep. Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) was critically wounded outside his South Side Chicago home, police said. Huey Rich, 29, went through two operations at Christ Hospital and Medical Center after he was shot in the groin and thigh, hospital spokeswoman Sue Reimbold said. Rush, a former Black Panther who unsuccessfully challenged Mayor Richard M. Daley this year, went to the hospital but did not make himself available to reporters. Rep. Rush, a former city alderman, has served in Congress since 1992. Police spokesman Pat Camden said that two men pretending to be plainclothes police officers approached Rich and several friends Monday night, and Rich was shot twice. The men fled in a car and were still being sought, Camden said. Rich’s friends said he was raised by a grandmother and bears his mother’s last name.
