Lucerne Valley 58, Fairmont Prep 8--Fairmont, fielding a football team for the first time in school history, was overwhelmed in its opening game at Valley Christian in Cerritos.
The visiting Mustangs scored on every possession. Jerome Wooley, Daniel Mottoh and Karl Halamicek each scored two touchdowns and Brad Reyes and Fred Bevelheimer each scored one.
Fairmont’s only touchdown came in the second quarter on Brian Kim’s 50-yard run.
Lucerne Valley led 51-6 at halftime, and the coaches agreed to play eight-minute quarters in the second half. Later, the fourth period was shortened to six minutes.
